Echocardiogram
with ECG
All echocardiograms are performed with a concurrent ECG and include review by a board-certified cardiologist. Echocardiogram studies all include 2D, M-mode, color Doppler, and pulse-wave/continuous-wave Doppler.
Abdominal Ultrasound
Comprehensive abdominal ultrasound. All studies include review by board-certified radiologists through Antech Diagnostics.
Urgent/ On Call Abdominal Ultrasound and Echocardiogram
Dr. Graas is available on call Oahu-wide for urgent abdominal ultrasound and echocardiograms. Although patients should always be stabilized prior to full ultrasound studies, prompt ultrasound imaging can still drastically alter treatment plans and improve patient outcomes.
Ultrasound Guided Tissue Sampling
Sound Veterinary Care offers fine needle aspiration of the liver, gall bladder, spleen, lymph nodes, and abdominal masses. Tru Cut needle biopsies of the liver are also available.
Thoracocentesis, Abdominocentesis, Pericardiocentesis
Dr. Graas is available for urgent ultrasound-guided interventions such as thoracocentesis and pericardiocentesis, as well as for palliative interventions such as drainage of chronic effusions in patients with cancer or heart disease.

Booking: please fill out the submission form below to schedule an appointment. If I have no availability at the desired date/ time, please text 1-808-298-2353.
Shaving: Patients will be shaved for both abdominal and echocardiogram studies. Exceptions can be made for Pomeranians who may not grow their fur back!
Fasting for Abdominal Ultrasounds: patients should be fasted for 8 hours (no food, but water is OK).
Fasting for Echocardiograms: no fasting is needed for echocardiograms.
Sedation: Pre-medication with gabapentin and/or trazodone 1-2 hours prior can very helpful and may avoid the need for injectable sedatives.
Approvals: please request owner approval ahead of time for fine needle aspirates.
Clinic Support: hospitals must provide 1-2 assistants (patient dependent) to restrain patients, a table for ultrasounds, and a stool.
Equipment Provided: Sound Veterinary Care provides the ultrasound machine, probes, ultrasound gel and an echocardiogram table.
Supplies Needed: hospitals are responsible for providing isopropyl alcohol, needles, extension sets, suction, sterile gloves, shavers and sterile scrub that may be needed for abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, or cystocentesis.
